Law students from Hankuk University are currently preparing for a mock trial and supporting one of their professors who has been accused of murder.
Kim Myung-min stars as Yang Jong-hoon, an ex-prosecutor turned professor teaching criminal law. While his personality can be difficult to read at times, Ryu Hye-young plays Kang Sol A, an first year law school student admitted via special admission who has an admiration for Ye-seul who he befriends during law school classes.
Professor Yang, Kang Sol A and Joon-hwi all figure in to this drama as suspects for the murder of a law professor. Professor Yang stands out as a possible perpetrator; Kang Sol A is an ambitious law student close to Joon-hwi whom she sees as her mentor and friend. Although accused of bullying before, Kang Sol A has since worked hard at school and is close to graduating despite this history; in addition she strives to help those in need through an office run by both her and her mother.
This drama boasts many fascinating characters. Beginning as a murder story, the series soon evolved into a larger plot surrounding Assemblyman Ko and the corrupt prosecutors who cover up for his crimes. Kim Myung-min plays Professor Yang Jong-hoon – a prosecutor turned teacher dubbed by his students “Yangcrates.” Although at first glance this figure might appear cold or intimidating, they actually find him very warm-hearted towards their students.
Law school students participate in mock trials as part of their education, which helps develop their witness examination and fact development skills while increasing understanding of the judicial system and confidence in analyzing facts.
Professor Yang quickly becomes the prime suspect when one of his students is murdered during a mock trial, even though he has an established reputation as being harsh and cold. Those close to him know otherwise – they know his true nature to be compassionate and thoughtful.
Kang Sol A and Han Joon-Hwi join forces in order to prove Professor Yang is innocent of murdering his sister, but still face obstacles like Assemblyman Ko’s demand that Professor Yang delete the video showing her sister accusing him.
Lack of romantic relationships at Kang Dan Law School is a serious challenge for students. While some are already married, others could find their relationships interfering with their studies. Therefore, having a solid support system like Professor Yang helps protect the students in any way possible – such as protecting them against being robbed in the student lounge.
He is an exceptional student who always goes the extra mile for his classmates, particularly Kang Sol A, whose family comes from low income circumstances and must work tirelessly in order to catch up.
She is extremely appreciative of his kindness, often turning to him for help and seeking protection against Assemblyman Ko’s malicious comments online. Though Law School begins slowly, its momentum soon picks up; Ryu Hye-young and Kim Myung-min make an impressive pair as leads.
Law school can be a demanding environment, with students facing tight deadlines, unforgiving professors who don’t hesitate to criticize them and the reputation of their school at stake. A strong support network such as Han Joon Hwi is essential in keeping students on track academically and professionally – acting as both mentor and legal expert when needed.
Kang Dan is another essential member of the student support system. Working hard to maintain her law school status while managing her sister’s responsibilities, when she discovers Assemblyman Ko has initiated a smear campaign against her, she takes swift action: demanding its removal from his social media accounts.
