Where is Attorney Ben Crump From?

Ben Crump is a prominent civil rights attorney. He represented Tyree Williams’ family after they were tased and later died while being held by Raleigh police, leading to legislation against excessive force as well as implicit bias training for law enforcement officers.

Kevyn Fowler

Fowler began playing guitar for various bands, including Dangerous Toys (sleaze rock). Soon thereafter he formed his own southern hard rock group called Thunderfoot and has released numerous singles and videos under this moniker. Additionally he has appeared in documentaries such as NPR’s How Lawyer Ben Crump Got the Nation Talking About Trayvon Martin and BET’s I Am Trayvon as an expert witness.

He is a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and father to Brooklyn Zeta Crump as well as guardian to two adopted cousins Marcus and Chancellor. Additionally, he runs his own law firm in Tallahassee, Florida and wrote “Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People”. Furthermore, he has been an outspoken voice on civil rights cases breaking barriers within legal environments.

Ahmaud Arbery

Ben Crump has represented numerous high-profile civil rights cases, such as representing Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor’s families, victims of toxic water in Flint Michigan and an amusement park ride accident family from Florida. His work has gained national attention and is revered among activists advocating on behalf of Black communities.

Black America has long referred to him as their attorney general and he takes that title seriously. Throughout his career he has dedicated himself to supporting communities he represents with deep connections to their families as well as an unflinching commitment to fighting injustices. Furthermore, he has established scholarships at Florida State University, Bethune Cookman and Livingston College specifically for minority law students.

Breonna Taylor

Attorney Ben Crump has represented several families of Black people killed by law enforcement officers. In most of his cases, he has successfully obtained large settlements; most recently a family of a Florida high school student who was body slammed to the ground by a police officer hired him as their lawyer.

Breonna Taylor’s death sparked the #SayHerName movement to bring attention to deaths of Black women at the hands of police.

George Floyd

George Floyd lived on the brink of poverty, yet was determined to rise out of it. He joined a rehabilitation program and held down two jobs at once; even saving enough to send money home to Houston with his family.

But after the deaths of his roommate and mother in close succession, coupled with opioid dependency, his life quickly spiraled out of control. In 2020, he was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police officer, sparking the Black Lives Matter movement.

Crump has dedicated his legal career to fighting for justice on behalf of his client and changing police policies since. He has represented families involved with high-profile civil rights cases such as Trayvon Martin’s, Michael Brown’s, Stephon Clark’s and Travon Martin’s deaths as well as becoming Florida State University College of Law Board President as its first African American President – two achievements which make him stand out.

Henrietta Lacks

Henrietta Lacks unwittingly ignited an unprecedented medical research revolution when her cervical cancer cells were harvested without her knowledge and distributed at John Hopkins Hospital in 1951, prompting an explosion of medical research activity. Now her family has hired a prominent civil rights attorney in order to seek compensation from pharmaceutical companies who made money off HeLa cells.

Ben Crump has become well-known for taking on high-profile cases like that of Henrietta Lacks. Previously, his clients included those associated with Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and other victims of police violence.

His tireless advocacy efforts have resulted in legislation to curb excessive force and implicit bias training for law enforcement officers, multiple appearances on television as a legal commentator, endowing scholarships at Florida A&M University, Livingston College and Bethune Cookman University for minority law students – an impressive list.
